Helicoiling sump plug thread


Think you broke it or don't know what to do?

Helicoiling sump plug thread

Is it worth doing this as a matter of course to avoid stripping out the thread? I just thought it would be a good precautionary measure.

No mate just use a torque wrench at the right setting lol

Yes I would have thought it should be best to leave it as is and as Carl said torque up to the specified torque.

Do it after you fook it. Helicoils bring with them their own set of problems

No if you fuck it up source a 2nd hand sump pan, or just don't fuck it up in the first place...

I just found my plug was held in with silicone. So I got an oversized repair kit. An M13 tap and 6 plugs. Mind you I did have to source a copper washer to make it stop weeping, still only cost £12 for the lot. Now torqued up nice and oil tight.
