Re: Can I ask a question pwease?

On Rear Shock

preload is your spring, on the rear that will be set by the rings (one is the adjuster and the is the lock ring)

also on the shock you will have damper and rebound adjustments.

the top adjuster is compression damper where the canister is

and the bottom adjuster is rebound

Is this front or rear?
Basically the more preload the harder the spring. It's a bit like a soft bed and a hard bed, two up you need more preload and solo less, it is a personal thing is suspension depending on how you ride.
You might be best going to a suspension specialist and get it set up for your weight. Or have a look on the web for setting the sag. There is a lot to read!!!

Its my rear I tried understanding it on google head got minced. So is the canister thats got a pipe running to mono shock a damper then? That has a screw adjustment with a h and a s on ot? How does that work?

Re: Can I ask a question pwease?

thats the compression damper. the rate at was the shock compresses.

so turn that so H and when you go over a bump the spring/shock will compress slowly,
turn it to soft and the spring/shock will compress quickly

look at the bottom of your shock and you might have rebound, this adjusts how quick the shock returns back to preload state and works on the same principle of H / S

Hard the slower the action and Soft the faster the action

Re: Can I ask a question pwease?

The preload rings adjust the tension in the spring, if you dont have enough preload on the spring then the shock will bottom out and be no use, too much preload and you will have a hard rear and the bike shock wont adsorb the bumbs, when riding 2 up this is the main one you want to adjust to compensate for the extra weight on the bike.

Re: Can I ask a question pwease?

http://www.fzrarchives.com/online_manuals.html

Preload is more of a ride height adjuster. It does not make the shock harder it just moves the spring to better position on the shocks travel depending on the weight of the rider.

The spring dictates how hard a shock is. The compression dampening controls how fast the shock can be compressed when loaded and rebound controls how fast it comes back.

Look in the workshop manual and set it two clicks for both higher than the basic road setting. I used that on mine for fast road and my first couple of track days.

Make sure you make a note of where it was set originally before you start playing with everything & make a mess of it so you can always put it back to where it was
